CORNWALL – Two Cornwall businesses will be adding another 142 positions to their workforce while maintaining other jobs through a provincial government program.
Laminacorr Industries in Cornwall’s Business Park will be receiving nearly $840,000 from the Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF). The company is investing just over $6.1 million to expand its facility and purchase new equipment.
The company, which produces corrugated plastics, is wasting no time. Two men could be seen taking measurements on Friday outside Laminacorr’s office and factory on Marleau Avenue.
The project, which is expected to be completed by December 2020, is expected to create a dozen jobs and retain 44 existing positions.
Meanwhile in the Cotton Mill District, Xplornet Communications is getting nearly $236,000 from the EODF and will invest $2.1 million of its own money.
The New Brunswick-based broadband internet company is making upgrades to its first multi-function facility in Ontario, which should be completed by January 2022.
It will add 130 new positions and retain eight existing jobs.
Ontario Infrastructure Minister Bob Chiarelli made the EODF announcements on Friday in Ottawa.
