LTE: Young Women are Leaders visit the Hill

Dear Editor,

Last week, fifteen young women from Cornwall, and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry visited Parliament Hill as the guests of Mr. Guy Lauzon, Member of Parliament for Stormont, Dundas and South Glengarry and, Eric Duncan, mayor of North Dundas and Warden for SDG. All tour participants are members of Young Women are Leaders, a Status of Women Canada initiative to build the leadership skills and civic engagement of local girls. Thanks to Mr. Lauzon and his team we had the opportunity to tour Parliament Hill, visit Mr. Lauzon’s office and observe Question Period including a warm, personal welcome from Mr. Lauzon delivered in the House of Commons. During lunch in the Parliamentary Restaurant, Members of Parliament Lois Brown (MP, Newmarket-Aurora), Michelle Rempel (MP, Calgary North), Stella Ambler (Mississauga South) as well as Mr. Lauzon and his assistant Sarah Honey took time from their busy schedules to offer words of encouragement and advice. YWAL members would like to publicly thank Mr. Lauzon and his team for organizing this event. The encouragement received from these political leaders to fearlessly follow our dreams was truly inspiring.
