Update 8:10 p.m. Thursday: All weather watches and warnings have ended for Cornwall and SD&G.
SD&G – Environment Canada says thunderstorms passing through the region today (Thursday) could have the potential to produce tornadoes.
A tornado watch was issued at 9:10 a.m. this morning for Cornwall, SD&G and much of Eastern Ontario.
Wind gusts could reach 100 kilometers an hour at times as severe thunderstorms roll through the area.
The risk for tornadoes is late this morning and this afternoon and “the threat should end by late this afternoon,” the weather agency said.
Emergency Management Ontario recommends you take cover immediately if there is a tornado, including going indoors to the lowest part of your home and staying away from outside walls or windows.
“Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can. As a last resort, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying debris,” Environment Canada said.
