CORNWALL – Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is getting a significant push from both the City of Cornwall and a health care provider.
The Cornwall Police Service and the Cornwall Community Hospital announced Friday they are hiring an EDI coordinator in what it calls a “measurable positive action.”
The shared employee would “provide strategic guidance” on aspects of EDI when it comes to training, projects and outreach.
The hospital says applications are being reviewed and the person should be hired in the next few weeks. The hospital did not mention how much the position would cost nor how it would be shared by CCH and CPS.
Meanwhile at tonight’s city council meeting, Coun. Sarah Good will propose the city strike an equity, diversity and inclusion advisory committee of council.
The committee would be responsible for auditing the city’s EDI practices, collaborating with other organizations on EDI and make regular progress reports to council.
Good’s motion will ask for a report – a committee won’t be immediately established.
