Canada Day: what’s open and closed, activities

SD&G – You will find many stores and services closed tomorrow (Friday) for Canada Day.

After pandemic cancellations last year, there will be fireworks in Lamoureux Park in Cornwall, beginning at 10 p.m. There will be activities throughout the day with the opening ceremonies at the band shell at noon.

Municipal offices across SD&G, including Cornwall city hall, are closed.

Banks, many retail stores and malls, including Cornwall Square, are closed. Walmart is closed.

Most LCBO stores and The Beer Store locations are also closed.

Canada Post offices are closed and there’s no mail delivery.

There will be no garbage or recycling collection in Cornwall tomorrow (Friday). Normal Friday pickup will be done on Saturday morning. The city landfill will be closed on Friday.

Cornwall Transit is not running and the transit office is closed. However, there will be no-charge shuttles to Lamoureux Park. The schedule is on the Cornwall Transit website.

The Cornwall Public Library and all branches of the SD&G County Library are closed.

In South Stormont, garbage and recycling collection normally picked up on Friday will be done on Saturday. The Trillium Road landfill is closed Friday. Fireworks are permitted to be set off on your own property but the municipality is asking you to be respectful to neighbours.

In South Dundas, garbage and recycling will continue as usual.

For North Dundas, the Boyne Road Landfill site is closed Friday. Curbside pickup and recycling will continue as usual.

In North Stormont, garbage and recycling continues as usual.

In North Glengarry, people who normally had garbage and recycling picked up Friday, had it picked up today (Thursday). Other pickups are not affected. The RARE plant is closed Friday.

In South Glengarry, garbage and recycling is not affected. Personal fireworks are allowed but the township asks you to do so safely.
