ALBANY, N.Y. – A man from Cornwall Island has been sentenced to time served for taking off from the Massena port of entry at Hogansburg.

It happened in May 2020 when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers tried to search Brennan J. Thompson’s Lincoln sedan as he entered the U.S. from Canada.

“When asked to open the vehicle’s trunk for inspection, Thompson quickly accelerated away from the inspection booth, made a U-turn and sped back into Canada,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the North District of New York said.

Thompson was caught about a month later and charged.

The 43-year-old Cornwall Island resident was sentenced Friday (April 2) to time served of approximately two months in jail and he will be on supervised release for three years.
