LANCASTER – South Glengarry is filling its chief building official (CBO) position from within, promoting its deputy CBO to the top position.

Chris Raabe is director of development and chief building official effective immediately, the township announced Tuesday morning (April 6).

Raabe has a mechanical engineering degree from Queen’s University and worked five years in the construction industry before he was hired by the municipality in 2018 as a building official.

He was promoted to deputy CBO in 2019.

On this latest appointment to the top position, Planning General Manager Joanne Haley says Raabe “will be an excellent leader in the building department and I am confident he will continue to work well with local contractors and builders in our community.”

If the name sounds familiar, outside the municipal circle Raabe is a 358 Modified dirt track racer at Cornwall Motor Speedway and other area tracks.

Raabe replaces retiring CBO Gary Poupart.
