Cornwall bicycle-cruiser collision under SIU investigation

CORNWALL – The province’s Special Investigations Unit will be probing a collision between a bicycle and a police cruiser in the city.

A cyclist was travelling east on Second Street East around 2:30 p.m. Friday (July 27) when an unmarked police SUV, also travelling east, turned right on Millville Avenue, the SIU said.

Pictures from the scene show the bicycle crushed under the passenger side front tire of the SUV.

The 33-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital. He has serious injuries.

The SIU has assigned two investigators to the case.

The police watchdog is looking to speak with the driver of a red sedan, which was stopped at the Second Street East and McConnell Avenue intersection and may have seen the crash.

The lead investigator can be reached at 1-800-787-8529.
