AKWESASNE – Human remains have been found on St. Regis Island in Akwesasne.
The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service and Quebec Provincial Police say the unidentified remains were found yesterday (Wednesday).
The case is being treated as a homicide and has been turned over to a special investigative unit with the Surete du Quebec.
“At the moment, we cannot determine the identity of the person found or the circumstance of the death,” AMPS said in a statement.
AMPS, along with an O.P.P. canine unit, had been doing an active search for 50-year-old Kenny Leaf at various “points of interest” over two days. Leaf went missing in January 2018.
