CORNWALL – The Big Ben Ski Center may operate next season, provided it gets someone bidding to operate it.
On Monday night during a special council meeting, councillors reversed their March 2 decision to cut $77,000 in funding for the hill, which had effectively closed it for the upcoming season.
The move followed public outcry.
But, it may or may not be Leader Sports operating it. The operation of the ski hill will go out for a bid, for the first time ever. (Corrected from an earlier version saying that it would be going to bid for the first time in over a decade)
The reversal of the budget steering committee’s recommendation was proposed by Coun. Bernadette Clement and passed in a 6-4 vote. Coun. Mark MacDonald was absent.
Meanwhile, the entire budget with a 4.86 per cent increase, which would add an extra $67 this year on every $100,000 of assessed value on a Cornwall home, was not passed on Monday night. It was defeated in a tie vote.
