CORNWALL – A couple from Morrisburg have the distinction of having the first baby of 2018 at the Cornwall Community Hospital.

Landon Curtis MacNeil was born at 12:01 a.m. Monday and is also the first baby born in SD&G.

He weighs 8 pounds and 4 ounces.

This is the third child for Julie Edmonds and John MacNeil – little Landon has two older sisters.

In Winchester, the first 2018 baby was born at 1:59 p.m. at the Winchester District Memorial Hospital.

Ayah Al-Taie weighed 7 pounds and 6 ounces.

Father Talib Al-Taie said he and mother Evan Jebur had been trying for a baby for nine years. “Everything is perfect,” he said.

The Ottawa couple chose to deliver their baby in Winchester after a recommendation from their obstetrician, a hospital spokesman said.
