ST. ANDREWS WEST/CORNWALL – Witnesses say two people were taken to hospital by ambulance Thursday night after a two vehicle crash on Highway 138, north of the city boundary.

Emergency responders were on the scene around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Cheryl Street – an entrance to the Rosedale Terrace subdivision – about a kilometer north of Cornwall Centre Road.

Witnesses say an SUV was stopped on the highway to turn left on Cheryl when it was rear-ended by another SUV.

“My family heard a loud slam and ran outside to see what happened,” Derek Bancroft told Cornwall Newswatch. “The two vehicles crashed so hard that they had to use a tow truck to split them apart.”

Despite the severity of the crash, SD&G O.P.P. Const. Tylor Copeland said both drivers had minor injuries.

One of them has been charged with careless driving, Copeland said.
