Massena raid part of North Country drug bust; 106 arrested

MASSENA, N.Y. – A year-long investigation culminated Thursday with various law enforcement officials arresting 106 people across northern New York State, St. Lawrence County and Massena.

In one case, neighbours in Massena watched as an armoured police vehicle mounted a sidewalk and crashed through the front door of a house.

Officials were holding a news conference today (Friday) in Canton, N.Y. to unveil details of the bust, which involved the U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents, according to the Daily Courier Observer.

The Massena police chief told the paper 20 houses in the village of Massena were targeted with 31 arrested.

There are 106 people named in two state Attorney General’s office indictments, facing 168 charges, according to the paper.

They are accused of being part of a large scale heroin and cocaine ring.

A Canton courthouse reportedly spent most of the day Thursday processing the accused and it’s expected to continue today.
