QUEEN’S PARK – Local MPP Jim McDonell has been given a Progressive Conservative caucus seat, representing Eastern Ontario, amid the downfall of the MPP holding the position.

It comes after PC Leader Patrick Brown and the party faced a second embarrassment from MPP Jack MacLaren in as many weeks.

A week after telling a sexist joke about a Liberal MP at an Ottawa fundraiser, MacLaren met with the party and later apologized today (Wednesday) for posting fake constituent endorsements on his websites.

In his defence, MacLaren said the testimonials weren’t fake – just the names and photos with them.

MacLaren, who was the Eastern Ontario representative in the PC caucus, has since apologized for both gaffes, possibly saving him from being kicked out of the caucus entirely.

McDonell assumes the new role immediately.
