Akwesasne police make $469K drug bust

AKWESASNE – Two men have been arrested and Akwesasne police have seized 61 kilograms (134 pounds) of marijuana in a Friday drug bust.

The Akwesasne Mohawk Police Criminal Enforcement Unit executed the take-down of the attempted smuggling operation on Cornwall Island after noting some suspicious activity in the early morning hours.

Two suspects were arrested at the scene.

Police said the marijuana was packaged with an estimated street value of $469,000.

They also seized a pickup truck and a mix of Canadian and American cash.

Two men from Akwesasne – ages 29 and 22 – are facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds obtained by crime.

They are appearing in a Cornwall court today (Monday).
