Man charged with murder in Carleton Street death

CORNWALL – A 28-year-old man is charged with first degree murder in connection to the death of a woman at a Carleton Street home Monday morning.

Police and paramedics were called to a home in the 300 block of Carleton, near the intersection of Walton Street, shortly after 8 a.m.

“The Criminal Investigations branch has been called in to investigate it. We can’t provide any names at this time pending further interviews with the family,” Acting Sgt. Derek Duchesne tells Cornwall Newswatch.

Police later arrested a suspect, who they say is known to the victim.

The 52-year-old female victim was discovered with no vital signs by officers. She was suffering from what police are calling “visible trauma.”

Neighbours tell Cornwall Newswatch the woman at the home had been stabbed to death however details of the murder have not been confirmed by police.

A neighbour on Walton Street says a woman and a “young kid” lived at the home.

The name of the person charged has not been released.

He’s being held for a bail hearing in a Cornwall court.

An autopsy has been scheduled.
