SD&G – The Cornwall area is under an orange level freezing rain warning.
Environment Canada says freezing rain is expected to start overnight and continue through Wednesday night (March 11).
Up to 20 millimeters (0.8 inches) of ice is expected as a “series of low pressure systems” could take up to 24 hours to pass through the region.
“Some areas across eastern Ontario closer to the St. Lawrence River may rise above the freezing mark Wednesday afternoon, which would lessen the amount of ice build up in these areas,” Environment Canada said.
An orange level warning means the weather impact will be major, widespread and is likely to cause “significant damage, disruption, or health impacts.”
With a rain event and the ground still mostly frozen, the Raisin Region Conservation Authority and South Nation Conservation have upgraded their advisories to flood watches.
