What’s open, closed for New Year’s Day

SD&G – With the start of 2026, there will be a number of closures and schedule changes to contend within Cornwall and SD&G this week. Here’s a list of closures:

  • Post offices are closed Jan. 1 and there is no mail delivery.
  • Banks and government offices are closed.
  • Retail stores are closed
  • LCBO and Beer Stores

Cornwall

  • City offices have been closed since Dec. 24 and will reopen Monday, Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m. For municipal works matters, call 613-932-5354.
  • There is no garbage or recycling collection Thursday (Jan. 1). Your garbage and recycling pickup day will be delayed by one day this week. The landfill is closed.
  • Cornwall Transit is not running. (Transit service ends early at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday). The transit office is closed New Year’s Day and closes at noon today.
  • The Aquatic Center, Benson Center and Civic Complex close at noon today and are closed for New Year’s Day.
  • The Cornwall Public Library is closed Jan. 1.
  • Cornwall Square is closed.

South Stormont

  • The town hall is closed until 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 5.
  • Recycling and garbage pickup is delayed a day with Thursday’s pickup on Friday and so on.
  • Long Sault Arena is closed.

South Dundas

  • The municipal office is closed until Jan. 5 at 8:30 a.m.
  • No garbage/recycling pickup on New Year’s Day. Pickup is delayed one day this week.
  • Morrisburg Arena is closed.

North Dundas

  • The municipal office is closed until Jan. 5.
  • Garbage and recycling pickup for Jan. 1 was picked up on Tuesday (Dec. 30).
  • The Boyne Road landfill is closed New Year’s Day.

North Stormont

  • The North Stormont municipal office are closed until Jan. 5.
  • Garbage and recycling pickup normally on Thursday will be collected Saturday (Jan. 3) and Friday’s collection will happen Monday (Jan. 5). (Due to the freezing rain storm).

North Glengarry

  • The township office is closed until Jan. 5.
  • Garbage and recycling collection, normally done today (New Year’s Day) will be moved to Friday. Friday’s normal pickup will be on Saturday.
  • The Glen Robertson landfill is closing at 11 a.m. today (Dec. 31).

South Glengarry

  • The municipal office is closed until Jan. 5.
  • Garbage and recycling normally picked up on Thursday will be picked up Friday.
