KINGSTON – A driver of a pickup truck has died after a head-on crash east of Kingston.

Provincial police say a tractor trailer and a pickup truck collided around 3 a.m. today (Sept. 12) and at least one of the drivers had life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened between Battersea Road and Highway 15.

Frontenac County OPP reported later in the day that the pickup truck driver died at the scene.

The transport truck driver was treated at hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the pickup truck driver “has not been confirmed,” OPP said.

“Moments prior to the collision, the OPP had received a report of pickup truck traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes,” investigators said.

A resulting fire from the crash meant “minor roadway repairs” were needed before the highway could reopen.

The stretch of the westbound lanes reopened just before 2 p.m. Friday.
