CORNWALL – Hundreds of Cornwall Electric customers are without power tonight (Wednesday) as the region is raked with high winds and slashing rain.

The utility says about 750 homes and businesses from Island and International Roads in Akwesasne to Eighth Street East and Brookdale Avenue in the City of Cornwall are affected.

The estimated time to restore power is between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight.

In the United Counties, there are pockets of outages. The biggest outage affects just over 1,300 customers in the area between Avonmore and Apple Hill. Hydro One has dispatched a crew and says power should be restored by 8:30 p.m. tonight, according to its outage alert map.

Customers will want to have their power back soon before the temperature plummets.

A flash freeze warning is in effect from Environment Canada.

The temperature was in the low teens as of 6:30 p.m. and is expected to head to minus 13 tonight. It will only be a high of minus 6 tomorrow and a low of minus 14 tomorrow night.
