Cornwall police make arrest in deadly motel shooting

CORNWALL – City police have arrested a Cornwall man in connection to a shooting at a Vincent Massey Drive motel last month.

The Cornwall Police Service arrested 29-year-old Ronald “Sammy” Payne yesterday (Oct. 26) and charged him with first degree murder.

A 37-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound on Sept. 16 at the Nites Inn Motel, just west of Tollgate Road West, and was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.

The victim, who has not been identified, was from Cornwall.

Police say the victim and the alleged perpetrator knew each other.

Payne remains in custody and is appearing in bail court today (Friday).
