CORNWALL – The former home of the Cornwall Curling Club caught fire late Friday night.

Cornwall Fire Services says their crews were called around 11:50 p.m. (Oct. 13) to the building at 11 Amelia Street, on the northeast corner of Amelia and Water Streets.

The department sent 10 firefighters and four vehicles to the scene and then called in an additional eight off-duty firefighters and two more vehicles to assist in battling the fire.

“First arriving firefighters were met with heavy smoke conditions; an exterior fire attack was conducted due to safety concerns with the structure,” Deputy Fire Chief Leighton Woods said in a news release.

Damage was isolated to the front of the building.

An investigation, in conjunction with Cornwall police, into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

There were no reported injuries.
