LONG SAULT – Four yachts raced a section of the St. Lawrence River as part of the annual Ladies Day Race put on by the Stormont Yacht Club.
Mattea, skipped by Lynn-Marie Legault, crossed the finish line after participants battled blustery conditions with winds topping 17 knots (31 kilometers per hour) on Aug. 26.
The other finishers (in no particular order) were Lagan III (skipper Natalie Bray), Amorce (skipper Kate Miller) and Chinook (skipper Viola Larkin).
Organizers note some SYC veteran sailors joined Chinook for the race – Betty Chaput, Marjorie McCoy and Myrna Earle.
The Stormont Yacht Club is a non-profit, member operated club, operating in Long Sault since the late 1950s.
