Update 2:42 p.m. Wednesday: The section of highway has opened ahead of schedule, according to Ontario 511.
CORNWALL/LONG SAULT – A section of the westbound Highway 401 from Cornwall to Long Sault is closed for construction.
The westbound side of the highway was shut down around 4:30 a.m. this morning, according to Ontario 511.
The eastbound lanes are not affected.
It means traffic has had to exit the freeway at Brookdale Avenue and take detours to Moulinette Road in Long Sault before jumping back on Highway 401.
The closure is expected to continue until 4 p.m. today, according to a social media post from the City of Cornwall.
The lane closures are in addition to the on-camp closure at Power Dam Drive announced yesterday.
