CORNWALL – A home on Guy Street in Cornwall has been gutted after an early morning fire while neighbouring homes were damaged.

Cornwall Fire Services was called to the home near the intersection of First Street East (300 block of Guy) around 4:15 a.m.

“First arriving firefighters were met with heavy fire conditions, with fire spreading to adjacent structures, all occupants of the homes were able to evacuate safety,” Deputy Chief Leighton Woods said in a news release.

There were 10 firefighters and four vehicles who initially went to the scene before another six off-duty firefighters and two other vehicles were called to the scene.

The fire department says the fire was contained to the home and the buildings next door. One vehicle was damaged.

There were no reported injuries though a family pet did perish in the fire.

An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
