GLEN WALTER β The two conservation authorities for SD&G are advising people to treat local waterways like they would during the spring over the next couple of days.
The Raisin Region Conservation Authority (RRCA) and the South Nation Conservation Authority (SNCA) both issued water safety statements Saturday.
They noted that streams and rivers in the area are higher than normal for this time of year and the area is forecast to get 15-30 millimeters of rain over the next few days. Temperatures will also be above freezing leading to an accelerated snowmelt.
Environment Canada also issued a rainfall warning Saturday.
βAt this time, flooding is not expected. However, rivers and streams may reach water levels typically only seen during spring melt,β RRCA Resource Specialist Halya Petzold said in a statement.
The RRCA is asking residents to prepare as they would for spring, such as making sure things are tied down so they don’t float away.
The SNCA was also telling people to make sure their sump pump and downspouts are clear and working properly.
The RRCA advisory in in effect until Thursday at 4 p.m.; SNCA’s until Friday at 5 p.m.
