LONG SAULT – There’s a new leader for South Stormont Fire and Emergency Services.

Morris “Moe” Lamer was appointed to fire chief during a township council meeting in September.

He takes over for Gilles Crepeau, who is retiring.

“Because of this individual’s skills and experience and dedication we’re welcoming…Moe Lamer and we’re welcoming him to the team. I know he’ll do a great job. He’s dedicated and gets along with everyone,” Mayor Bryan McGillis said.

During his career, Lamer was a fire prevention officer with Cornwall’s fire department.

The mayor also recognized Crepeau for his dedication to the South Stormont fire department, noting the changes and improvements he made were “second to none.” He also complimented the outgoing chief’s open door policy.

McGillis joked that Crepeau won’t actually retire but will be “moving on to do something else.”

South Stormont Fire and Emergency Services has four stations in Long Sault, Ingleside, Newington and St. Andrews West and approximately 96 volunteer firefighters.
