Cornwall to host World Junior A Challenge after two year delay

CORNWALL – After two years of pandemic postponements, the World Junior A Hockey Challenge will be returning to the ice in Cornwall.

The tournament will feature two Canadian (Canada East and Canada West) and three international teams that will play at the Cornwall Civic Complex over eight days in mid-December.

The international teams are coming from Latvia, Sweden and the U.S.

The games were last played in 2019 in Dawson Creek, B.C.

“Fans in Ontario having been patiently waiting for this world-class event, and those fans can expect high-quality hockey,” said Dean McIntosh, vice-president of events and properties with Hockey Canada, in a statement.

The under-20 tournament was created in 2006 as a means for scouts from the CHL, NCAA and NHL to see players in action.

The games run Dec. 11-18.
