SDSG – After three terms as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, Jim McDonell is retiring.

He made the announcement Tuesday in a news release, saying it’s been a “challenging job, but certainly rewarding,” but the sexagenarian wants to concentrate on the next chapter of his life with his family.

“I have truly enjoyed serving as our community’s MPP for the past decade, and I have been blessed by a wonderful family, especially my wife Margie and a group of colleagues who have supported me in my work,” McDonell said.

“The time has come to pass the torch and to enjoy the next chapter of my life closer to home.”

McDonell has served in number of roles at Queen’s Park, mostly recently as the parliamentary assistant to Municipal Affairs Minister Steve Clark.

The next Ontario election will be held on or before June 2, 2022.
