ALEXANDRIA – North Glengarry council decided unanimously this week to rename the community hall inside the Glengarry Sports Palace as a posthumous honour for a township councillor.

The hall will now be called Michel Depratto Hall, remembering the Alexandria Ward councillor who died on March 14.

Mayor Jamie MacDonald says Depratto “took great pride in the responsibilities afforded to him and he always made sure he was available to answer questions and help out his fellow neighbours.”

Depratto, the president of the Alexandria Lions Club, was a devoted community volunteer, lending his hand in a number of local charities.

The idea to rename the community hall was proposed by Coun. Jacques Massie in April and was agreed to by council on Monday (May 11).
