CORNWALL – A man was airlifted to an Ottawa hospital early Tuesday morning (Jan. 7) after an “interaction” with city police, according to the Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The SIU has assigned three investigators and forensic investigator to the case.

Spokesman Monica Hudon told Cornwall Newswatch that officers were called about a report of a man in distress around 4:30 a.m. near Brookdale Avenue and First Street West.

It was there, officers were met with a 32-year-old man wielding a “sharp object,” Hudon said.

During that skirmish, the man sustained serious injuries to his neck, she said.

The investigation will look into that altercation and determine whether officers were justified in their actions in the moments before the injury.

An area around the south end of the Four Seasons Car Wash – several blocks from the initial call – was taped off by police.

But officials have not said what transpired between the two scenes.
