MORRISBURG – The regional coroner has called for an inquest into the 2017 death of Babak Saidi.
The 43-year-old Iroquois man was shot to death during a confrontation with O.P.P. officers inside the police station that spilled out into the parking lot of the Morrisburg detachment on Dec. 23, 2017.
The coroner’s inquest, which is required by law, will examine the circumstances surrounding Saidi’s death and the jury may make recommendations to prevent future deaths. The inquest won’t assign blame.
In February, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit cleared police in their involvement in the death.
A date and location for the inquest has not been announced.
