First frost expected tonight

SD&G – After a humid and mild Tuesday, the first frost of the season is expected tonight (Wednesday).

The temperature reached 16 degrees on Tuesday but the weather is about to take a drastic, seasonal turn.

Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for SD&G as the temperature is expected to dip to 2 degrees tonight (Wednesday) under a mostly clear sky – perfect conditions for frost.

This is around the time we should be expecting the first fall frost, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. It’s estimate, based on historical data, was Oct. 1.

Environment Canada says you should cover up frost-sensitive plants and trees.

It will also be time for gardeners to winterize their gardens after the frost hits.
