Flood in Chateau Cornwall leads to evacuation

(Newswatch Group/File)

CORNWALL – Roughly 90 people at Chateau Cornwall were evacuated Tuesday after a flood on at least two floors in the building.

A broken pipe caused water to pour into the fifth floor of the building and also got into the fourth floor.

The Cornwall Fire Department responded to the call and also led the evacuation.

The retirement home at 41 Amelia Street is run by Chartwell.

Cornwall Transit helped in transporting the evacuees and Chartwell also brought in school buses.

An official from the OSPCA was also on site to help pick up some pets that were in the building.

It’s not known how long the tenants will be out.
