Cornwall Bereaved Families facing closure by May

CORNWALL – After three decades in Cornwall, the local chapter of Bereaved Families of Ontario is facing closure.

In a Facebook post Wednesday morning, the organization announced that with “heavy hearts” it will be closing its Montreal Road office by the end of May unless some “major sources of funding are found.”

The 11 provincial offices, which provide support for people who have lost a loved one or family member, receive no government funding, the agency said.

Instead, it gets money from fundraisers and donations but its “most significant and reliable source of funding” withdrew its support four years ago, BFO said.

The organization says it’s tried to look at a partnership with other agencies in the city so it could continue its services but the idea has not been successful to date.
