CORNWALL – The Alexandria-Cornwall Catholic Diocese has released a statement a day after O.P.P. revealed they had charged one of its former priests in a historic sexual assault case.
Gilles Deslauriers, 79, was arrested on Tuesday last week and charged with two counts of indecent assault.
The alleged assaults happened in Green Valley in the mid-1970s.
The diocese says it’s “committed to fostering a safe environment for all those who interact with our clergy, volunteers and lay staff.”
Deslauriers was with the diocese from 1970 to 1987.
The statement also refers to the church’s safe environment policy, which you can find here (policy links are located under “DOCUMENTS” on the lower left side of the page).
Deslauriers will be in an Alexandria court on April 3.
