CORNWALL – A $5,000 GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the family displaced in a Saturday night house fire in Cornwall.

Fire ripped through a two-storey home in the 30 block of Smith Avenue, near Brookdale Avenue, around 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

“That was my parent’s house,” Justin O’Neil said in an email to Cornwall Newswatch. “They were long time renters and that was their first house they ever bought. They purchased it in 2000.”

O’Neil said his parents had house insurance but are looking for some help from the community with extras as they recover.

Roger and Rosanne O’Neil shared on social media that they were away at a relative’s house when the fire started. All their pets – a puppy, four cats and a number of guinea pigs – perished in the fire.
