AKWESASNE β Even though it’s legalized now, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne says it hasn’t issued any licences for recreational marijuana shops in the territory.
The MCA released a statement today (Wednesday) β a day after two shops were raided by police.
βThe provisions of the Akwesasne Interim Cannabis Regulation will be enforced and violations can lead to prosecution under applicable legislation,β the statement read.
Recreational marijuana use became legal in Canada Oct. 17, 2018 but unlicenced production, distribution, possession and sales of cannabis is still prohibited within Akwesasne.
