Suspect in Cornwall chase wanted in Ottawa shooting

CORNWALL – A Cornwall man, arrested Sunday in short high speed chase in a city neighbourhood, was wanted by Ottawa authorities in connection to a shooting there last week.

Cornwall police cornered a Dodge Durango Sunday near the intersection of Ontario Street and Twelfth Street East after a brief one kilometer chase down Twelfth.

The suspect, 28-year-old Kerby Franklin, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation, cocaine possession and cocaine trafficking.

Franklin has since been transferred to Ottawa to face charges in connection to a shooting on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 8) on a street in Overbrook (a neighbourhood south of Vanier).

The Ottawa Police Service announced today (Nov. 13), it has laid 10 charges against Franklin including two counts of attempted murder. The other eight charges are firearms-related.

Franklin appeared in an Ottawa courtroom today for a bail hearing.

A second suspect – a 24-year-old Ottawa man – is also facing charges. The victim in the shooting is expected to recover.
