Update 1:28 p.m. Tuesday: Suspect in Cornwall chase wanted in Ottawa shooting

CORNWALL – A city man has been arrested after leading police on a brief one kilometer chase through a local neighbourhood Sunday.

Cornwall police say one of their officers tried to stop a sport utility vehicle near Pitt Street and Twelfth Street East because the driver was wanted by another police department.

The driver took off but only made it less than a kilometer after being boxed in by several police cruisers at the corner of Twelfth Street East and Ontario Street.

Police seized cocaine and cash during the man’s arrest.

A resident in the area, Al Swift, posted on Facebook that officers had their weapons drawn on the black Dodge Durango during the arrest.

Kerby Franklin, 28, of Cornwall is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation, cocaine possession and cocaine trafficking.

He will appear in court Dec. 18.
