SD&G – The federal government has delivered the first installment of nearly $3 million in federal gas tax money to the City of Cornwall.

It was the first of two, $408 million installments of the federal Gas Tax Fund delivered to Ontario municipalities today (Friday).

Cornwall is getting $2.95 million – the amount it was expecting to receive, according to the municipal budget – while the United Counties of SD&G is getting a little over $2 million.

Here is what the five townships and one municipality are receiving:

  • South Stormont – $401,864
  • South Dundas – $343,799
  • South Glengarry – $419,222
  • North Stormont – $215,790
  • North Dundas – $357,527
  • North Glengarry – $326,504

The money can be used by the municipalities for 18 different types of projects, including roads, bridges, water and sewer systems.

In Cornwall’s case, gas tax money is being spent this year on roads, sidewalks and playgrounds.
