Cornwall council candidate list grows

CORNWALL – In the final week for nominations, the list of people seeking a Cornwall council seat has grown.

There are now 17 candidates seeking 10 spots on city council.

There are three incumbents on the list – Justin Towndale, Denis Carr and Elaine MacDonald. Others, such as Mark MacDonald, have indicated publicly they will be running.

The other 14 nominees are: Ryan Acheson, local salesman Carson Andrews, Christopher Archambault, grocery store department supervisor Todd Bennett, Cornwall Innovation Center executive director Kelly Bergeron, Carol A. Boileau, Patrick Dussault, Keith Frost, former councillor Syd Gardiner, Jack Lindsay, provincial Liberal candidate Heather Megill, feral cat advocate Mary Jane Proulx, Gerald (Gerry) E. Samson and businessman Eric Bergeron.

It’s a three-way race for mayor with former councillors David Murphy and Bernadette Clement running. Nicole Spahich, a candidate for mayor in 2010, is running again.

People have until Friday afternoon to file their papers to run for council.
