LONG SAULT – One person is in hospital in critical condition after a single vehicle rollover, which closed the westbound lanes of Highway 401 for about five hours Monday.
South Stormont firefighters, Cornwall-SDG Paramedic Services and SD&G O.P.P. went to mile marker 772 between Moulinette Road and Dickinson Drive around 1 p.m.
A vehicle with three people in it, went into the ditch and rolled over, police said.
One man, who was a passenger, is in critical condition, while the man driving and another woman passenger were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
No names have been released.
The crash snarled traffic on the holiday Monday, pushing hundreds of cars and trucks to County Road 2 in Long Sault. The traffic eventually built up to Power Dam Drive on the outskirts of Cornwall.
One reader driving on Power Dam Drive told Cornwall Newswatch, frustrated drivers on Highway 401 were making U-turns and heading up the on-ramp at Power Dam Drive, against the traffic flow.
The westbound lanes between Long Sault and Ingleside reopened around 5 p.m., the O.P.P. tweeted.
