Update 9:45 p.m. Monday: This story has been updated with more details.

MONKLAND – A man in his 20s has been arrested after the O.P.P. executed a search warrant at a Monkland home Friday afternoon in relation to a weapons issue.

The home on Roxborough Gardens Road was searched on Friday by members of the SD&G O.P.P. Crime Unit and Emergency Response Team.

Neighbours report that around a dozen police cars and a forensics unit were on scene.

“They did a warrant on a residence. There was a male taken into custody…weapons-related offences,” SD&G O.P.P. Tylor Copeland told Cornwall Newswatch.

“There were no injuries…nobody was hurt,” Copeland said.

Police say “multiple firearms” were seized including long guns and side arms.

Copeland says the investigation did reveal that a weapon had been fired inside the home.

A 26-year-old North Stormont man has been charged with two counts of careless use of a firearm and three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was held for a bail hearing.
