CORNWALL – Frustrated with the pace of talks, the picket signs will be waving outside city hall tonight (Monday), ahead of the city’s regular council meeting.
Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will be demonstrating at 360 Pitt Street starting at 6 p.m.
Not only is the union frustrated with how long negotiations are taking – since the beginning of October 2017 – but it’s also upset with “barriers to settlement.”
Most of the contracts expired in 2016 and the library contract in 2015.
The union represents inside and outside workers, librarians, long term care home workers at Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge and paramedics.
Meanwhile, city councillors will hold an in-camera session, starting at 6 p.m., to get an update on collective bargaining.
