Deadly officer-involved shooting at Morrisburg O.P.P. office

MORRISBURG – The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is leading the investigation into a deadly officer-involved shooting around 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the O.P.P. detachment in Morrisburg.

The SIU says a man went to the O.P.P. detachment around noon today (Saturday) and was involved in an “interaction” with several officers outside the building.

That’s when one of the officers fired his service weapon, killing the man.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

There had been attempts to revive him, according to several media reports citing eyewitnesses.

The police officer is being treated for undetermined injuries, SD&G O.P.P. said.

The SIU has assigned four investigators and three forensic investigators to the case.

The area was cordoned off this afternoon with yellow police tape. Several police vehicles and a Cornwall-SDG Paramedic Services ambulance have been on site.

The O.P.P. station is on the northwest corner of Fifth Street West and Ottawa Street (County Road 4).

The SIU is urging anyone with information to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
