ALEXANDRIA – Glengarry Memorial Hospital has welcomed two new doctors to the fold.
Dr. Sara Accardi finished her residency at the University of Ottawa and then did work placements in Atlanta, Ga., Rochester, N.Y. and Miami, Fla.
Accardi went to medical school in the Dutch Caribbean island of Saba, south of St. Maarten, and has taken an interest in preventative health and women’s issues.
“I’m looking forward to finally having my own patients that I can build a relationship with and who I’ll see year after year,” Accardi said.
Dr. Joanne Lau did her residency at Queen’s University in Kingston following her medical degree at University of Ottawa.
Lau, who has a special interest in caring for the elderly, became interested in practicing medicine in a small community like Alexandria, after working in Kingston, Peterborough, Belleville and Picton.
“I enjoy working in smaller towns where family physicians can have a wide scope of practice,” she said.
Both women plan to set up a family practice at Glengarry Memorial, where they will see patients in the hospital.
Hospital CEO Linda Morrow says the new doctors will be a great boost to the hospital.
