KEMPTVILLE – After 11 years as the director of education with the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario, Bill Gartland is retiring.

Gartland has been in the Catholic education system in various capacities for 32 years.

“Of course, it is difficult to leave, and I will miss the people from all parts of our Board. We are a great Catholic community and I leave with a spirit of appreciation for all the blessings I have been given over the years. It has been a tremendously rewarding career,” he said.

Board chairman Todd Lalonde said Gartland has guided the CDSBEO “with a great vision for positive growth that has resonated throughout CDSBEO schools.”

Gartland won’t be leaving the board until January 2018.

Board spokesman Amber LaBerge says the board will be reviewing a replacement strategy in the next month.
