DUNDAS COUNTY – A South Dundas resident, active in his community, has been named the Good Neighbour for 2016.
Chad De Jong received the award Tuesday night during a South Dundas council meeting in Morrisburg.
The award by Linking Hands, in conjunction with the two townships, is to recognize people who “put forth enormous effort to make life better for their neighbours and their communities.”
Linking Hands coordinator Sandy Casselman says De Jong was a unanimous pick by the judges, who were members of the Linking Hands Steering Committee.
The information of the nominees was evaluated by the judging panel by reviewing the information separately with names and personal information removed.
De Jong was nominated by Amy Griffin and Barb Scott, former members of the Matilda Memorial Recreation Committee. De Jong is currently on the Matilda Memorial Recreation Committee as a co-chair.
Casselman says the nomination letter “detailed all the ways he (De Jong) has gone above and beyond to help his community before the rec committee was created and after. He did the majority of the hard labour putting in several hours each night.”
In North Dundas, Mike Barkley will receive the award during the North Dundas council meeting Tuesday (Feb. 14).
