CORNWALL – City councillor David Murphy wants to see what the city can do to clamp down on renegade e-bike riders – including hitting them in the wallet.

Murphy, with the support of Coun. Andre Rivette, has asked for a report to council by sometime next month on steps the city could take, in conjunction with Cornwall police, to step up enforcement.

Murphy explained to council he’s seen an increasing number of the motorized two-wheelers not following the rules of the road.

Coun. Rivette, who is also chairman of the police board, said they have “started the process” but it will be looked at while working with the city’s bylaw enforcement department.

A report will be coming back to council in February.
